A metaphor occurs to me. I was thinking about the big science questions in life, about evolution and cosmology. When it comes to such things, the devout are like students who bought a novel instead of the text book. Not only that, they never pay any attention in class and don’t study. When they’re tested, no matter what the question, they always give the same answer.  It doesn’t even matter what type of question. Be it a multiple choice, true/false, short answer or essay their answer is inevitably “god”.

The fortunate thing for them is the class of life isn’t graded. It’s not even a pass/fail. It’s like an audited class. There’s no penalty for getting the answers wrong, but it sure is a waste of time to have gone through the whole thing only to have learned nothing.
